I know, I know. It’s not actually Monday. But it’s so early that I bet most of you aren’t even up yet. I’m getting behind already this week.
Hey, I’ve been reading.
No, I haven’t found my copy of Drive yet. It’s a problem, I know. This is what happens because I love reading and writing much more than I enjoy cleaning.
Continuing through my stack of books that I picked up off the Texas Lone Star list shelf at our local library, this weekend I read
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
This young adult novel has been on my to-read list for a while now. I put it off because science fiction usually isn’t my favorite genre. However, this book struck a good balance for me: there was enough world-building to be interesting and clearly mark the book as sci-fi but not too much technical jargon. I find that some science fiction (and fantasy) writers become so enamoured with the worlds they are creating that the character development suffers. But not this book.
Cinder is a cyborg and the best mechanic in the Commonwealth. All of her earnings go to support her stepmother and two stepsisters. She wants to attend the prince’s ball, but who would want a cyborg at a royal ball? And what on earth would she wear?
I’m looking forward to reading the newest installment in this series: Scarlet.
This week I’ll be reading
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
I Have a Dream: Writings and Speeches that Changed the World by Martin Luther King, edited by James M. Washington
What are you reading this week?
“It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?” is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. It’s a great way to keep track of what you’re reading and see what others are reading each week.
